Football challenges

23 Mar 2020 by James Thornhill

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and staying safe. Sorry I’ve not managed to do this sooner…

Whilst the boys are off school over the coming weeks I’d like to propose a couple of challenges to keep them active and to allow them to continue to work on their footballing technique.

I appreciate some of them will have the opportunity to be home schooled during this time but some will not. Either way I hope these challenges will be a welcome relief from their home tuition and / or a relief from screens!

1. Keepy uppy challenge – part 1

each player to have as many attempts as possible at keepy uppys before Friday 27th March. Please post the best attempt (the most keepy uppys without the ball hitting the ground) on here before then.

I’d then like everyone to practice this for as long as they like and as often as they like (and as parents you allow 😃).

Between Monday 20th and Friday 24th April I would like the players to record their best attempt that week and post it on here.

We can see who has managed the most but more importantly who has improved the most over that period so it doesn’t matter if the first attempt is 2 keepy uppys or 20 each player still has something to aim for when they practice and have their final attempts in late April.

2. Keepy uppy challenge – part 2

A competition for who can do the most keepy uppys (must be video’d for proof and so we can show the other players to hopefully inspire them).

The video should be posted up to TeamApp (for example a player does 5 keepy uppys and uploads to Team App). The player that uploads a video with the most keepy uppys is crowned Keepy Uppy King. To be Keepy Uppy King you need to do more Keepy uppys and video it and post it to the group.

All videos to be posted to Team App please. It would be great if we could have a few Keepy Uppy videos over the next few weeks so even if their attempt doesn’t result in them becoming the Keepy Uppy king please still post it if possible.

Hope that all makes sense, if not then basically ask the players to do keepy uppys, video it and upload the video to Team App…it’ll then all become clear over the next few weeks as more ppl get involved with it.

3. Quick touch challenge

The player has 20 seconds to touch the ball (with their feet) as many times as they can. Generally the best way to do this is to pass the ball from foot to foot as quickly as possible. This will teach them to be light on their feet, have good balance and appreciate the feel of the ball between their feet. Again videos would be great so we can have a Quick Touch Champ.

Obviously as a coaching team we’ll post advice and words of encouragement for videos and messages that are put up on Team App.

Let me know if anyone needs a football delivering.

Thanks
James ⚽️
